TALKING TO THE VOID

Most songwriters think songs are about expressing themselves.

The best songwriters know they're actually creating conversations.

Here's the trick:

Instead of writing about someone, write to them.

A lost love.
Your younger self.
Your future self.
God.
A memory.
A city.
An artist who's been dead for 50 years.

The moment you address something that can't answer back, your song changes.

It stops feeling like a journal entry and starts feeling like a living conversation.

I call this technique Talking to the Void, and it's one of the most powerful tools in the Thousand Echoes system.

Write the opening line of a song addressed to someone or something you've never spoken to directly in a lyric.

Start with their name.

See what happens.
