Can AI create from experience? An Interview With Krista Herring.
Longtime friend and artist, Krista Herring, stopped by for an interview.
You Can’t Fake a Lived Life
Some songs only arrive after you’ve lived long enough to earn them.
This week at Thousand Echoes Studio, I sat down with Krista Herring—a songwriter I’ve worked with for nearly 15 years—and we talked about how experience shapes art in ways nothing else can.
Krista has lived in many places, moved through different music communities, and allowed life to inform her voice over time. That depth shows up in her songs—not as polish, but as truth.
We talked about songwriting, about patience, and about why truly human music still resists easy formulas. We also touched on AI—not from fear, but from clarity. AI can mimic patterns and styles, but it can’t live a life. And real songs still come from lived experience.

Krista also shared wisdom for artists earlier in their journey—about trusting the long arc, letting your voice mature, and allowing meaning to compound over time.
She’s a master songwriter, a generous teacher, and a genuinely lovely human. I’ve been blessed to be part of her musical world.
If you’re creating and wondering whether your life actually matters to the work—it does.
